People have been riding horses since about 2000 BC and first rode bareback. If you ride at a riding school you probably don’t give much thought about the saddle as long as it is comfortable for you. However if you own that horse you will start to think about how it fits your horse. You may have several horses all different shapes and sizes. Depending on the different equestrian disciplines you
may require a specialist saddle.
Mkulu Kei horse trails, a safari equine holiday along the Wild Coast, riding horses on the beach and swimming through the rivers and estuaries. The hot African sun baking down with the ocean breeze a cooling effect. Sand, salt and rain making your equine adventure special for you but incredibly hard on our saddles. In trying to find the best saddle for our requirements we manufactured a perfect long distance saddle, a cross between English and a stock saddle. We have taken the best of both to design the ultimate trail saddle for our use and to sell to you.

Our equestrian shop was established from client interest. Proudly South African made, we manufacture horse tack and equine products and a saddle to fit your high withered horse, low withers or over fat pony with no withers. Equine products for sale at our equine shop direct from the factory for all your equestrian tack and horse equipment. Specializing in a light weight trail endurance saddle, stock saddle, youth saddle, and polo crosse saddle in leather or synthetic. An adaptation of English and Western saddles this has proved to be the best horse saddle used on trial. Tested in abnormal riding conditions at Mkulu Kei Horse Trails over long distances, different horses shapes, an assortment of riders, over extended periods, expected to ride through salty estuaries, to be durable enough to handle constant use, being man handled and the abuse of our daily routine and low maintenance. It was not long before we had enquiries for a polo cross saddle. |

Horse riding equipment can be expensive and equestrian suppliers are sometimes limited to what they have in stock, we can custom make for your tack & saddle requirements from the factory tackshop. Riding saddles come in all shapes and sizes but are not usually tested in the conditions our saddles must endure. Would you submerge your saddle in salty water and then ride on for 2-6 hours only to repeat the same abuse the next day for months on end and expect your saddle to last? We do. At Mkulu Kei Horse trails crossing salty water estuaries with the horse tacked up is a normal experience, it is the only way to cross some rivers. |

A cross between an English and a stock saddle: With a wide generous gusset, padded half panels, suitable for fat and high withered horses for good wither clearance - one size saddle fits most horse shapes. Fitted with multiple D-rings to attach saddle bag, breast collar or crupper although the V girth attachment stabilizes the saddle in most situations. Improving the horse’s performance by allowing the horses shoulder blade to rotate, reducing tension to the horses back and hindquarters, allowing the horse to relax and move in a round frame. Helps prevent deterioration and atrophy of the horse’s top line muscles and gives the horse the chance to extend their length of stride. • A closer contact with the horse for better communication with your leg. • Generous gusset width preventing pinching to horses back and sufficient clearance above the horse’s spine. • Option of two pommel heights for adequate wither clearance. • A strong anti rust safety release stirrup bar allows the stirrup leather to unhook and helps prevent a rider being dragged. • Skirt or jockey to prevent rider from rubbing on buckle of stirrup leather. • Option of two stirrup position settings for optimum comfort. • Option of saddle flap which helps the horse’s side from being pinched by the stirrup leathers. The straight cut flap is set slightly further back more suitable for long distance riding giving the rider the option of a longer stirrup length for comfort allowing the rider to relax in the saddle.
